The Nazification of America

This story relates how the civilian lawyers in the Defense Department, the Justice Department and the White House instead of acting to provide informed legal decisions on matters of state, actually led the assault on the Geneva Conventions which led to the torture and prisoner abuse in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay. They did this by drafting "legal opinions" that would allow the government to break the Geneva Conventions. This has happened and continues to happen. The government of the US has joined World War II Germany and Japan as outlaw states that show complete disregard for any conventions or rule of law. What is worse is that they have no respect for human lives and have sunk to the level of their attackers.

Helplessness

"The answer to helplessness is not so very complicated. A man can do something for peace without having to jump into politics. Each man has inside him a basic decency and goodness. If he listens to it and acts on it, he is giving a great deal of what the world needs most. It is not complicated but it takes courage. It takes courage for a man to listen to his own goodness and act on it. 'Dare we be ourselves?' This is the question that counts."

The real threat....

"The real threat to the life of the nation, in the sense of a people living in accordance with its traditional laws and political values, comes not from terrorism but from laws such as these."
LORD HOFFMAN, of Britain's highest court, which ruled against indefinite detention of terror suspects.

Truth (who CAN you trust?)

Documents show the government's chief of AIDS research, Dr. Edmund Tramont, rewrote a safety report written by one of his own medical officers to change its conclusions and delete negative information about the U.S.-funded study that determined nevirapine could be used safely in single doses to stop the spread of AIDS to African babies from their mothers.

Dropping Peace Birds in Thailand

When I read this I nearly fell off my chair. In a bid to quell ethnic strife in Thailand the air force dropped around 100 million paper origami cranes on Muslim sections of southern Thailand.

Thailand drops paper ‘peace birds’ on restive South

Certainly a new way of approaching the problem. The following article shows a different side of the coin and perhaps it was because of the level of world criticism of the brutality by the Thai military towards the Muslim minority that brought about this "peaceful" approach...
