The American Gulag III (Postscript)

From the Washington Post; an editorial about the US government's sending of Maher Arar, a Canadian citizen to Syria to be tortured because he was on one of their terrorist watch lists. Now he is suing the US government who is withholding all information because of.... da, da, da, you guessed it.... National Security. Their point is this: we can do whatever we want, to whoever we want and we don't have to say anything about it because we are protecting you and you should love giving up liberty, justice, the right to a fair trial and all of the other freedoms our forefathers fought for because we are protecting your freedom. Is there something you don't understand here? BTW, if you are not an American citizen, you have no rights and you are a non-person... understand?

The American Gulag III

This story reported in the New York Post is every free person's nightmare of falling into the hands of a totalitarian dictatorship. Well, folks, it's here now in your country, the U.S.A. Know, that the U.S.A no longer stands for freedom or justice or humane treatment of people. The Nazification of America is complete.

From the article: "Any government that commits, condones, promotes or fosters torture is a malignant force in the world. And those who refuse to raise their voices against something as clearly evil as torture are enablers, if not collaborators."

Torture, American Style (New York Times)

The Rise of Fascism in America

Just to review, here's another definition of Fascism:

1.  fascism -- (A political system that emphasizes nationalism, militarism, and anti- communist and totalitarian rule. Individuals are allowed to retain ownership of capital goods but are subject to centralized control.)

Today the senate passed a bill that prevents state courts from hearing a broad range of class action cases, effectively preventing consumers from taking action against companies who are engaged in defrauding the public. It is a classic case of the federal government usurping states  rights (and in effect individual rights) unilaterally to protect their clients: the large corporations. This is being done by the Republican Party, a party which has historically supported states rights against the incursions of the federal government. Here's what Senator Harry Reid, the senate minority leader had to say:

"This bill is one of the most unfair, anti consumer proposals to come before the Senate in years," said Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the minority leader. "It slams the courthouse doors on a wide range of injured plaintiffs. It turns federalism upside down by preventing state courts from hearing state law claims. And it limits corporate accountability at a time of rampant corporate scandals."

The American Gulag III

On Jan 31 the Center for Constitutional Rights filed new documents with the German government investigating war crime allegations against administration officials. It included new evidence that the Fay report protected administration officials and added new evidence involving Attorney General nominee Alberto Gonzales.

Gonzales added to war crimes complaint in Germany; new evidence shows Fay report on Abu Ghraib protected officials

Definition: Fascism

To start off, lets go to the dictionary for a definition:

def. Fascism — A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

American Heritage Dictionary

From his article “Fascism Anyone?”, by Dr. Laurence Britt, an analysis of seven modern fascist regimes we have the following characteristics:

By my count the U.S. government stands at 14 out of 14. What do you think?

Ending Social Security

The 'Other America'  May Be Coming Back

By Harold Meyerson

Once upon a time, in a land that stretched from one great sea to another, half the elderly were poor. When their work life was done, they retreated into their rented room or their trailer, or their room at their children's home, or even the county poorhouse. Their rulers looked at their plight and concluded that, "at least one-half of the aged -- approximately eight million people -- cannot afford today decent housing, proper nutrition, adequate medical care . . . or necessary recreation."

The Free Press?

It seems that we learned a lot from the USSR during the cold war in the area of government control of the press. In this case the government is using tax dollars to pay journalists to broadcast the Fascists' version of "truth". Has anyone but me noticed that the press in America is not broadcasting the "news", but a sanitized version, a censored version of the truth? We have seen the dead bodies in gory detail of the tsunami, but there have been more civilian fatalities since we invaded Iraq than the tsunami and we have seen none of this in the US press. Do we dare ask why? Here's the answer....

WILLIAMS INCIDENT MAKES THE CASE FOR THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE

The American Gulag II

It's somewhat heartening that the courts in the US have been pretty consistently ruling against this outlaw regime that is ensconced in Washington. With eight years of appointing judges however, can we hope that they will continue to uphold the constitution of the US in the face of this full scale assault by the Bush government fascists?
