I know it's hard to believe but there really is a vegetarian restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, and not only that it's really good. It's called Planeta Vegetariano. It's located a half block north of the big church on a side street near the intersection of Hidalgo and Iturbe. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's buffet style with several entrees, soup, rice (whole grain and white), at least 10-15 different salads. For 65 pesos it's a good deal and the food is healthy and excellent.
This is without a doubt one of the best vegetarian restaurants I've been to in all my travels (I am a vegetarian of over 35 years and have traveled quite a bit) Great delicious food at a modest price. Everyone I have taken there is in agreement.

This restaurant is amazing!! I ate there for dinner two nights in a row. Even if you aren't vegetarian, check it out! Another great healthy place with a lot of veggie options (it also offers meat), is 100% Natural. These were my fav places to eat in PV.

I thought this place was decent, and in Mexico, vegetarian restaurants are rare enough that none should be too readily dismissed.
However, I find that they definitely suffer from problem that most vegetarian restaurants have in Mexico: vegetarian is strictly equated with health food, and it's a kind of health food akin to that prominent in the United States in the 70s. Planeta Vegetariano offers a few hot entrees, which beats the typical cucumber and alfalfa sprout sandwich, fruit smoothies and cold salads that dominate the vegetarian scene in Mexico, but I found the flavor bland and the dishes pretty unimaginative.
In PV though, restaurants are more upscale and try to make dishes fancy by adding things like lobster or Chilean sea bass to things that really do not need such treatment, so a place that has offerings that are usually vegetarian will often end up with absolutely nothing meat-free. Given that, Planeta Vegetariano is at least a reliable option for vegetarians.
