Paul Theroux: The Mosquito Coast
Great book, but living here is not THAT bad! Buscerias has almost no mosquitoes. San Blas 3 hours north is another story....
Gabriel Garcia Marquez: One Hundred Years of Solitude
If you live in tropics, caribean or otherwise, you must read this!
Octavio Paz: The Collected Poems of Octavio Paz, 1957-1987: Bilingual Edition
a crystal willow, a poplar of water,

Lila Downs: La Sandunga
Trained in opera, her voice goes places unexpected to say the least. Her rendition of the traditional Mexican tune "Sabor a Mi" is extraordinary.
Jose Alfredo Jimenez: Lo Mejor de Jose Alfredo Jimenez
One of the geniuses of Mexican music. A prolific writer beloved by the older Mexicanos.
Lola Beltran: Lo Mejor de lo Mejor
Lola Beltran was the first lady of Rancho/Mariachi music. A stunning voice.
