Life in Puerto Vallarta

If you find your way to the most southern part of Puerto Vallarta, to Old Town (Viejo Vallarta) and find your way to the beach there, known as Los Muertos (the dead), you will be grateful. ;-)

The name comes from a historical incident long forgotten. The beach has numerous restaurants which have placed umbrellas and palapa structures with chairs and tables on the beach for your enjoyment. Just buy something, some drinks, some food from them and you can have the place for the day. You will be grateful!!!

A Day in Puerto Vallarta

Saturday I took a bus to Puerto Vallarta and spent the day exploring parts of Vallarta that I hadn't been to before. I walked down through town past the old soccer field which is now a track field and a skate park. I took this picture across the field, catching the mountains that surround Vallarta in the background. Summer here on the coast is hot and wet. As you can see from the picture, the mountains are very green and filled with storm clouds.

Car Crisis

Not to let things get too idylic, the following e-mail arrived today. By way of background, people who live here and buy property here typically file with the Mexican government for an FM-3. This is a migratory document that allows you to live here full time if you have sufficient income but you are not allowed to work here. It is mainly aimed at retirees. Two of the perks of having an FM-3 are (or should I say were) that if you buy property here and spend more than 6 months here you can sell your property and not pay any capital gains taxes. In addition, each holder of an FM-3 is allowed to bring one car or truck from outside the country and assuming you properly register it with the Mexican government at the border, you are allowed to keep it here as long as you are a resident.
