In 1961 President Eisenhower in his farewell address to the nation warned of the growing power of the military and the industries supplying arms. He warned against the influence of this industry in the halls of government and its potential to destroy democracy from within. 50 years later, his words have a prophetic ring. In truth as President George told us, we are entering a time of perpetual war. The truth is, we entered the time of perpetual war before Eisenhower ever left office. In truth he wasn't warning us about something that might happen, he was warning us about something that had already happened. In his time it was the cold war, a creation of his secretary of State, John Foster Dulles and his brother who was the head of the CIA, Alan Dulles. Together they thwarted Eisenhower's and Kruchev's plan to bring about detante between the Soviet Union and the United States. This era saw the beginnings of the Vietnam war, a war which was unwinnable and had no purpose or relevance. The people supplying the war however profited greatly. It is still going on today.
